This project enables the establishment of an integrated and consolidated STEAM precinct for Firbank Grammar School’s Sandringham Primary School campus. Promoting a transdisciplinary STEAM program is a key component of the school’s educational direction. The redeveloped Social Centre Hall, STEAM and general classroom buildings at the centre of the campus along the western boundary will house the new STEAM Precinct. The precinct will support Firbank to align resources and teaching spaces to enable the delivery of a contemporary STEAM program. The STEAM precinct will bring together class types currently dispersed throughout the campus, including music, art and food technology. An essential component of the design approach is a move toward large flexible classrooms with easy access to storage and resources that can be customised to suit the particular needs of each class. This flexibility will enable students to make use of creative processes in solving problems.
