Project info:

A new civic-minded addition to the Flemington Racecourse campus delivered within a compressed timeframe with complex site constraints. A large public staircase traversing a six-meter level change, that marks a new entrance for guests arriving by train with amenities and services incorporated below. A complex project that makes sense of strange adjacencies and vastly varied surrounding building scales. Sensitively responding to the heritage context, the project holds the line of the ‘betting ring’ and re-introduces the rhythm of the existing ‘tote’ windows in the new building’s façade. The proposal incorporates the generous use of landscape elements, that soften the harsh surrounding environment and provide moments of relief for its users.
